About the artist: 

For the Vienna Secession's Beethoven exhibit, 21 artists collaborated to create a celebration of Beethoven. It featured a large sculpture placed in the middle of a room and surrounded by a frieze, a decorative band of ornament on a wall near a ceiling. Klimt painted the frieze as a background for the sculpture, and it became known as the Beethoven Frieze, featuring, on one of its panels, this lady with a lyre, finding happiness in poetry.
